What's Happening the Week of November 28th Through December 2nd

Kindergarten

Phonics----The students will continue their study of words that contain the letter "Ff".  Then, the students will begin the study of words that contain the letter "Rr"---keyword---rabbit.  Some "Rr" words will be:  rip, ram, rag, rot, rat, rap, ran, trip, trim, trap, raft, ramp, grass, and gram.

Reading----The students will be reading word lists and booklets.

Math----The students will be studying number patterns; learning that numbers come in a counting order;  comparing numbers to 12; and order numbers to 12.

Religion----In Chapter 13, the students will learn that Advent is a special time in the church year when we prepare for the coming of God's Son, Jesus, the Light of the World.

First Grade

Phonics----The students will be learning about  words that contain "o consonant e", "u consonant e", "i consonant e", "e consonant e", contractions, and words with the letter "Xx".

Reading----The students will be finishing their workbook pages and worksheets that go along with the story, "I Am a Butterfly".  Then, the students will read the story, "Did You See Chip?",  pp. 36-54.  Through this story, the students will be introduced to words that contain the "ar" sound.

Spelling----In Unit 17, the spelling words will contain the "sh" and "ch" sound.  The spelling words this week are:  ship, chin, much, chop, wish, shop, shoe, how, now and our.  This week's spelling test will be on Friday, December 2nd.

English----The students will be learning when to use the verbs----is, are, was, and were.

Handwriting----The students will be printing the letters "h", "m", "N", and "O".

Writing----The students will be writing their own stories with the characters from the reading stories, "I Am a Butterfly", and "Did You See Chip?", and spelling word sentences.

Social Studies----Everyone will be learning about "Natural Resources", "Laws", and "What a Leader Is?".
