What's Happening the Week of September 6th Through September 10th

I hope that everyone had a wonderful time a the Parish Picnic. 

Kindergarten

Phonics----The students will be learning the sound of the letter "Hh"---keyword--hat.  The students will learn that the letter "Hh" is a consonant letter.  The students will be reading the word log, and the word hog. 

Reading---The students will be reading a new color word this week---the color word---green.

Handwriting----The students will be printing their fisrt name and the letter "Hh".

Math---The boys and girls will be learning that a square and a rectangle have four sides and four corners.  The students will also learn that a circle is one curved line and does not have sides and corners.  Then, the students will study about color patterns.

Religion----In Chapter 4, the students will learn that God gives us the land.  God wants us to take care of the gift of the land.  God does not want us to waste His gift .  It is important to do what God wants us to do.

First Grade

Phonics---The students will be studying words with the letters "Aa", "Zz", "Ss", and the suffix--s.  The students will also be learning words from the "ack" and "ick" word families.

Reading----The boys and girls will be reading the story "Jack and Rick".  The booklet," Mack and Sam", will also be read.  The booklet, "Mack and Sam" contains the Words To Remember from the "Jack and Rick" story.

English----The students will be studying about question sentences.  A question sentence asks something and ends with a question mark.  Then, the students will be reviewing telling sentences.

Spelling----In Unit 7, the students will be learning "short "Oo" words.  The spelling words this week are:on, got, fox, box, pop, not, block, was, I, and you.  This week's spelling test will be on Friday, September 10th.

Writing----This week, the students will be writing one story about a bear and another story about a rabbit.  The students will also be writing sentences containing some of this week's spelling words.

Handwriting----The students will be practicing the letters "g" and "H', and the numbers 1-10, in their handwriting workbooks.

Social Studies----Everyone will be learning that the planet Earth is made up of land and water.  A large body of water is called an ocean. Another body of water is called a lake---with land all around it.  A river flows across the land.  The Earth's land is----a plain or flat land; hill--higher than the land around it; and mountains---the highest kind of land.
