What's Happening the Week of August 29th Through September 2nd

Kindergarten

Phonics----The boys and girls will be learning the sound of the letter "Gg".  The students will learn that the keyword for the letter"Gg" is goat.  The students will also learn that the letter "Gg" is a consonant.  The students will be doing many "Gg" worksheets and listening to a story with many "Gg" words.

Reading---The students will begin reading the word   l---o--g--  by putting the sounds the letters "Ll", "Oo", and "Gg" make together.  The students will also be reading color words on the many worksheets that they will be doing this week.

Math----The boys and girls will continue the study of the number "3".  Then the number "4" will be studied.  The students will be writing numbers; counting objects; learning about the color yellow and reading the color word yellow; and learning about the rectangle shape.  The students will continue sorting by size and shape.

Handwriting----The boys and girls will be writing the letter "Gg" and their first name.

Religion----Chapter 3, in the "We Believe" religion book will be studied.  In Chapter 3, the students will learn that God gives us water.  God loves us and cares for us, so God gives us water to live.

First Grade

Phonics----The students will be learning about the long vowel sound of the letter "Oo"---as in the word overalls.  Then , the students will study the letters "Pp", "Ii", "Ll", and "Aa". 

Reading---The students will read the story "Ants" in their First Grade reader.  The booklet, "Tim and Pam" will also be read.  Through the reading workbook pages, the students will be reviewing the short vowel sound for the letters "Aa" and "Ii".

English----The boys and girls will be learning about telling sentences .  A telling sentence tells about someone or something and ends with a period.  Then, the students will learn about question sentences.  A question sentence asks a question about someone and ends with a question mark.

Spelling----Unit 6 is a review unit.  The spelling words this week are:  an, ran, big, six, did, bad, had, cat, in, can, pig, and sit.This week's spelling be on Friday, September 2nd.

Writing----The studnts will be writing sentences describing a picture of a cat, that they colored.  The students will also write sentences with their spelling words.

Handwriting----The students will be writing in their handwriting workbook.  The letter "a", "B', "o", and "P" will be printed.

Social Studies----Everyone will be learning about our planet Earth.  The students will learn that our planet Earth is made up of land and water.  The land on the planet Earth is called a continent.  We live on the continent of North America.  Our country, the United States of America, is on the continent of North America.  The students will also learn that a globe is model of the Earth.
