What's Happening the Week of September 27th Through September 30th

Social Studies----Everyone will celebrate Johnny Appleseed's birthday.  The students will be making apple patterns, apple necklaces, apple worksheets, making "pot hats", tasting different kinds of apples, eating apple sauce, drinking apple juice, making a Johnny Appleseed sticker scene, and doing many more fun apple activities.

Kindergarten

Phonics----The students will continue their study of the letter "Pp" and words that contain the letter "Pp".  Then, the next letter of study will be the letter "Aa"---keyword--apple.  The students will learn that the letter "Aa" is a vowel.  Some "Aa" words will be:  hat, pat, tap, lap, and gap.

Math----The students will be learning about the terms :  above, below, top, middle, bottom, over, on, and under.  The students will also continue their study of the number "7", and learn about the number "8".  The students will be writing numbers 1-8.  The students will learn the color word "orange".

Handwriting----The students will be printing their first name and the letters "Pp" and "Aa".

Religion----In Chapter 7, the students will learn about "Ordinary Time" in the church year. Ordinary Time is a special time in the church year when the church celebrates God's love. 

First Grade

Phonics----The students will study words made with the letters "Dd" and "Ff".  The "op" and "ug" word family will be studied.

Reading----The students will be starting the second book in the First Grade reading series.  The story "Dan's Pet" will be read.

Spelling----In Unit 10, the students will study words that contain short vowel sound words.  This week's spelling words are:him, hot, man, men, top, cut, cabin, has, his,and as.  This week's spelling test will be on Friday, September 30th.

English----The students will be studying about nouns, and words that mean more than one , due to the addition of the letter "s" at the end of a noun.  Special nouns---nouns that begin with a capital letter and name people, animals, and places. 

Handwriting----The students will be printing the letters "E","e", "F" and "f".

Writing----The students will be writing a story using the characters from the story "Dan"s Pet".  The students will also be writing spelling word sentences.

Social Studies----Everyone will be celebrating Johnny Appleseed's birthday.  Then, the students will talk about rules.  Rules tell us what we should do and what we should not do.  Then, the students will learn about transportation, and how things in our lives have changed over time----then and now.
