What's Happening the Week of March 7th through March 11th

Kindergarten

Phonics
The Kindergarten will continue reading words that contain the letter "Ee".  Many worksheets will be done to go along with the study of the letter "Ee".  Then the next letter of study will be the letter "Yy".  The students will learn that the letter "Yy" is a consonant.  Some "Yy" words to be read are:  yam, yak, yell, yap, yen, yes, yet, and yelp.

Reading
The students will be reading many words containing the letters "Ee" and "Yy".  A word list will be sent home.  A phonics booklet called "Ben Is Ten", will also be read.

Handwriting
The students will be writing words that contain the letters "Ee" and "Yy".

Math
The students will be reviewing counting by ones, fives, and tens to 100.  Addition and money worksheets will continue to be done.

Religion
The students will be in Chapter 20 in their "We Believe" religion workbook.  In Chapter 20, the students will learn about "Lent".  The students will learn that "Lent" is a special time in the church year.  Lent is a time when we remember what Jesus did for us, and we celebrate Jesus at Mass.

First Grade

Phonics

The students will be studying the digraphs of "au" as in "auto", and "aw" as in "straw".. The students will also be studying the soft "c" sound as in the word " city".  Along with the soft "c" sound, the students will be studying the "ace" and "ice" word families.

Reading
The students will begin a story called  "Tell Me a Story", pp. 98-116.  Through this story the students will be introduced to "i-consonant-e" words.  Then the students will read a story called, "My Robot", pp. 124-142.  Through this story the students will be introduced to the "ice" and the "ace" word families.

Spelling
In Unit 27, the students will study more long "a" words.  This weeks' spelling words are:play, may, say, way, day, stay, rain, pain, sail, mail, today, afraid, too, soon and hear.  This weeks' spelling test will be on Friday, March 11th.

English
The students be studing "adjectives".  The students will learn that an adjective tells about how a noun looks, tastes, smells, sounds, or feels.

Math
The students will contiue to study money.  The students will also being doing addition and subtraction worksheets.  "Rocket Math" will also be continued.

Writing
The students will be writing stories, in which they are to use the correct English rules.

Science
Everyone will be studying about our planet "Earth" .  "Earth" is made up of  rocks  and different soils.

Social Studies
Everyone will be reading "Time For Kids" magazine.
