What's Happening the Week of January 24th through January 28th

Kindergarten

Phonics--The boys and girls will continue studying words that contain the letter "Bb".  Some "Bb" words are:  bib, bat, bag, ban, and bass. Many "Bb" worksheets and "Bb" projects will be done.
Reading--The boys and girls will be reading a phonics booklet called--"The Big Trip".
Handwriting--The boys and girls will be printing the letter of the week--the letter "Bb", and words with the letter "Bb".
Math--The students will continue working with addition problems, and then start a unit on money.
Religion--In Chapter 17, the students will learn that the Holy Family did things together, just as the students family does things together. 

First Grade

Phonics--The students will learn about the final syllables of "dle", "ple", "fle", "tle", "gle", "cle", "kle", "sle", and "zle".  The digraphs "oa" as in boat, and "ow" as in blow will also be studied, along with the continued review of "ow" as in down, and "ou" as in house.
Reading--The students will continue the workbook pages that go along with the story--"Friends Forever".  Then the students will begin the story, "The Fox and the Stork", pp. 144-162.
Spelling--The students will continue with Unit 21--"Long "i" words".  Monday and Tuesday, this week will be spent reveiwing Unit 21 words.  Unit 21 spelling words are:  time, like, kite, bike, white, five, drive, nine, hike, ride, write, invite, could, would, and two.Unit 21"s Spelling test will be on Tuesday, January 25th.  Then, the students will begin Unit 22--"Long "o" words".Unit 22's Spelling words are:  go, home, rope, so, joke, bone, hole, no, stove, poke, hello, alone, done, come, and some.  Unit 22's Spelling Test will be on Friday, January 28th.
English--The students will be studying about "verbs", and that an "s" needs to be added to a verb when it tells about a pronoun that names one.  Then, the students will learn about contractions. 
Math--Continue working with the tens and ones place value --with numbers 40 through 100.  The students will also be doing additon problems with two-digit numbers.  Rocket Math worksheets will be done.
Religion--In Chapter 17, the students will learn that we become members of the church through the sacrament of Baptism.At Baptism we receive God's life in us.  The students will study about Baptism's symbols--water, a white garment, and a candle.  Then, in Chapter 18, the students will learn that we are followers of Jesus.  Jesus is the light of the world, and Jesus helps us see what God's love is like.

Science--Everyone will be studying about "Plants".  The parts of a plant will be studied.  The students will be learning that each part of a plant does a diiferent job.
