What's Happening This Week----November 12th Through November 16th

Kindergarten

Phonics----The Kindergarten students will continue their study of the sound that the letter "Mm" makes----keyword----monkey.  Then, the students will learn the sound that the letter "Ii" makes----keyword----inch.  The students will learn that the letter "Ii" is a vowel letter.

Reading----The Kindergarten students will read phonics word lists.  The students will read the "Word of the Day". The students wear a headband with the "Word of the Day" written on an index card that is put on their headband.  Then, anyone can ask a student "What word is on your headband?".

Handwriting----The Kindergarten students will be printing the letters "Mm" and "Ii".  Phonics words and phonics word sentences will also be printed.

Math----The Kindergarten students will learn to "Identify and Write the Numbers 11 and 12".  Then, the students will learn how to "Tell Time to the Hour".

Religion----The Kindergarten students will learn that "We Learn About God With Our Families".

Centers----The Kindergarten students will be using play-dough to make letters, printing letters and tracing over straight lines and curve lines on dry-ease boards with dry-ease markers; making flash cards; doing number and letter puzzles and using the magnetic board to make phonic words.

First Grade

Phonics----The First Grade students will learn about " "o---consonant----e", "u----consonant----e",  "i----consonant---e",  "" e----consonant----e" words and "Contractions".

Reading----The First Grade students will read the story "Fun With Fish".  The students will also read the booklet----"At the Fish Shop".  Then, the students will read the story----"I Am a Butterfly".  The First Grade students are learning their reading vocabulary words by wearing a headband with the "Word of the Day" written on an index card that is put on their headband.  Then, anyone can ask a student "What word is on your headband?".

English----The First Grade students will learn that they should "Name Yourself Last".  Then, the students will learn about "Pronouns".

Writing----The First Grade students will write a story about a  "Frog" .  Then, the students will write a story about "The First Thanksgiving".

Spelling----The First Grade students will do a "Review Unit".  The past five units spelling words will be reviewed.  This week's spelling words are:  an, got, fox, box, pop, not, yes, let, red, ten, bed, get, us, sun, but, fun, bus, run, him, hot, man, men, top, cut, ant, jump, tent, lamp, bump and went.

Math----The First Grade students will learn about "Place Value of Digits", "Telling Time to the Hour", "Expanded Form of Two Digit Numbers", "One Less and One More" and "Identify Before, Between and After".

Religion---The First Grade students will be doing lessons in their "Growing in Love " religion book.

Centers----The First Grade students will be doing the "short vowel boxes", "magnetic board for vocabulary words", "string words for vocabulary words",  "practice math facts using the math facts wheels" and doing "play-dough words".

Science----The students will continue their study of "Animals----"Places to Live" such as "Land and Water Habitats", and how "Plants and Animals Live Together". Then, the students will learn "What is a Food Chain?".  Next, the students will learn about "What Earth Looks Like".

Social Studies----The students will continue their study of "The First Thanksgiving".
