On Monday, April 4th and Tuesday, April 5th, I will be giving the Up-and- Coming Kindergarteners to be next school year, the Missouri KIDS Test. Mrs. Werdenhausen will be the substitute teacher, in the Kindergarten Classroom, for those two days.
Kindergarten
Phonics----The Kindergarten students will continue their study of the sound that the letter "Jj" makes----keyword----jar. The students will learn that the letter"Jj" is a consonant letter. Then, the Kindergarten students will learn the sound that the letter "Xx" makes----keyword----fox. Fox ends with the "Xx" sound. The students will learn that the letter "Xx" is a consonant letter.
Reading----The students will be reading word lists and the phonics booklet-----"Pig's Jet".
Handwriting----The Kindergarten students will be printing the letters "Jj" and "Xx".
Math----The Kindergarten students will begin a unit on "Money". The students will be learning the value of each coin, what each coin looks like---it's size and color and what is on each coin. Addition problems and writing numbers from 1-100, will be continue to be studied.
Religion----The Kindergarten students will continue to learn about "Easter and Jesus' new life. Then, the students will learn about "Sharing Faith".
Science----The Kindergarten students will continue their study of "Energy----Light and Heat".
Crafts----The crafts will center around the "Spring" season.
First Grade
Phonics----The First Grade students will be learning the soft "C" sound as in circle, "ir" sound as in bird and "ur" sound as in turtle. The "igh"=long i sound as in high, will also be studied.
Reading----The First Grade students will be given the 5th reading book in the First Grade reading book series----"Gather Around". The students will be reading the story----"The Story of the Blue Bird". Then, the story----"Frog and Toad All Year" will be read.
Spelling----The First Grade students will continue their study of Unit 32----long "o" words. Unit 32 Spelling word test will be on Wednesday, April 6th. Unit 32 spelling words are: slow.grow, show, low, blow, snow, boat, coat, goat and road. The Challenge Words are: yellow and shadow. The Special Words for Writing are: far, year and does. Then, Unit 33, will be studied. In Unit 33, the students will be learning words that end with "ed". Unit 33 Spelling words are: played, fished, rained, jumped, showed, slowed, wished, needed, stayed and mailed. The Challenge Words are: worked and parked. The Special Words for Writing are: after, under and off. Unit 33 Spelling Word Test will be next week, on Tuesday, April 12th.
English----The First Grade students will be reviewing past items that have been studied, such as "Adjectives, Writing Sentences Correctly, Using Capital Letters Correctly, etc.".
Writing----The First Grade students will be writing their own stories-----one story about a clown and another story about a bird.
