What's Happening This Week-----February 22nd Through February 26th

The Kindergarten students enjoyed "Cowboy/Cowgirl Day" on Friday, February 19th.  The Kindergarten students did "Cow Addition Math" worksheets; did "Cow" stickers; watched the letter "Cc" videos; sang the letter "Cc" songs; did the "Hokey Pokey" as a line dance and did the letter "Cc" worksheets.
The First Grade also did "Cow' stickers.  Later, in the afternoon, the Kindergarten and First Grade students had a snack of pop corn and root beer.  Then, the Kindergarten and First Grade students played cards.  Everyone had a "Rooten, Tooten" good time!

Kindergarten

Phonics----The Kindergarten students will learn the sound that the letter "Ee" makes----keyword----elephant.  The Kindergarten students will learn that the letter "Ee" is a vowel.
Reading----The Kindergarten students will be reading "Ee" words, such as:  net, bell, leg, step, nest. mess, get, help, ten, tell, spell and rest.  Word lists and the phonics booklet--- "Ben is Ten"----will also be read.
Handwriting----The Kindergarten students will be printing the letter "Ee" and some phonics word sentences.
Math----The Kindergarten students will continue their study of "Addition".  The students will learn about "Vertical Addition".
Religion----In Chapter 23, the students will learn that "We Pray as Jesus Did".
Science----The Kindergarten students will continue their study of "Seasons".
Social Studies----The Kindergarten students will continue their study of "Presidents". The students will be learning about our country's first president---George Washington.  Abraham Lincoln will be reviewed.
Crafts----The crafts this week will center around "George Washington and Abraham Lincoln". Some crafts will also be around the letter "Cc" "Cowboy?Cowgirl" theme because time ran out to finish these crafts on Friday.

First Grade

Phonics----The First Grade students will learn about the sound of "ai" as in rain; "ay" as in hay: "igh" and "compound words".
Reading----The First Grade students will be reading the story "My Robot".  The booklet----"How to Make a Face" will also be read.
Writing----The First Grade students will be writing their own spelling word sentences and their own story about a robot that they will design.
English----The First Grade students will learn about capitalizing the name of the "Months of the Year" and "Holidays".  Then, the students will learn about "Commas in Dates".
Spelling----In Unit 27, the students will learn about Long "a" words.  This week's spelling words are:  play, rain, say, way, sail, day, mail, stay, may and pain.  The Challenge words are:  today soon and afraid.   The Special words are:  too, soon and hear.  This week's spelling word test will be on Friday, February 26th.
