What's Happening the Week of October 7th Through October 11th

Kindergarten

Phonics----The students will continue their study of the sound that the letter"Pp" makes---keyword---pig.  Then, the students will begin their study of the sound that the letter "Aa"makes---keyword---apple.

Reading----The students willcontinue reading color words.  Words with the letters "Ll", "Oo", "Gg", "Hh", "Tt", "Pp" and "Aa". willbe read.  A word list and the phonics booklet----"Hot, Hot, Hot"---will be read  at school and sent home as homework.

Handwriting----Ths students will be printing their first name and the letters "Pp" and "Aa".  Phonics words will also be printed.

Math----The students will be learning the terms----inside, outside, top, middle, bottom, in front of, and behind.  The square and rectangle shapes will be reviewed. Many "Hands-On" Activities will be done in Math.

Religion----In Chapter 8, the students will learn that "God Made All People".

First Grade

Phonics----The students will be reviewing the sound of the letters "Ff", "Hh", "Gg" and "Rr".

Reading----The students willbe readingthe story "All That Corn".  Through the story "All That Corn"---the students wii be introduced to the "all" word family.  The booklet " One for Me" will also be read containing the "Words to Remember" from the story "All That Corn".  The phonics booklet----"Three Rich Sheep" will also be read.

English----Thestudents will be reviewing----"What a sentence is?"; telling and asking sentences; and what kind of sentence ends with a period or a question mark.  Then, the students will be learning about "Nouns".

Spelling----In Unit 10, the students will be having a "short vowel review".  This week's spelling words are:  him, hot, man, men, top, cut, cabin, has, his, and as.  This week's spelling test will be on Friday, October 11th.

Handwriting----The students will be printing many pages in their "Handwriting Workbook".

Writing----The students will be writng their own "asking word sentences" and "spelling word sentences".  The students will also be writing their own story using the characters from the story "All That Corn".

Math----The students will be learning about "related facts"----such as---1+2=3 0r  2+ 1=3; number-line addition; addition patterns; and adding doubles.  Many addition and subtraction worksheets will be done.  "Rocket Math" will continue to be done.

Religion----In Chapter 5, the students willlearn that "God Wants Us to Love Him and to Love One Another".

Social Studies----Everyone will be learning about "Earth"s Land and Water".  The "Time For KIds" magazine will also be read and studied.
