What's Happening the Week of April 30th Through May 4th

Everyone and a great time on our K-1 Field Trip.  A big thanks to all the parents that came along on our field trip.
Renaissance Day was a fun day for all.  Many fun activites were done by everyone.  What a fun way to learn about the Renaissance Era.  A special thanks to Mary Ann Eickhoff for being my "Jester Assistant", in the K-1 "House of Jester", for Renaissance Day.

Kindergarten

Phonics----The students will be learning about the sounds of----"u-e"--as in the word--"cube", and "e-e"--as in the words--"concrete".  Then, the sound of "ee" will be learned.The keyword for "ee" is "sheep".

Reading----The students will be reading stories and word lists.

Math----The students will be learning about spheres, cubes, cones, and rectangular prisms.  "Rocket Math" will continue to be done.

Handwriting----The students will be writing about the "Holy Spirit" and the "Ten Commandments".

Religion----The students will learn about the "Holy Spirit".  The students will also be learning about Jesus' first miracle, when listening to the story of "The Wedding of Cann".  The students will also learn that Jesus prayed "Our Father" at "The Sermon on the Mount".  The students will learn that Jesus taught through story telling. The students will be listening to several of Jesus' stories----"The Wicked Servant" and "The Prodigal Son".

First Grade

Phonics----The students will be studying the sounds of "u-e" as in the word "cube", "ea" as in the word "head", and "oo" as in the word "tooth".

Reading----The students will be reading the story----"Sleep is for Everyone", and the booklet "Ready for Space".  Then, the story "Baboon" will be read.

English----The students will be reviewing the action part of a sentence, sentence rules, telling sentences, question sentences, and nouns.

Spelling----As Unit 35 was not started last week as planned, the students will be learning Unit 35 spelling words this week.  In Unit 35, the students will be studying compound words.  Unit 35 spelling words are:  bedtime, sunset, bathtub, sailboat, flagpole, railroad, backpack, playpen, raincoat, and inside.  This week's bonus words are:  airplane, doorbell, walk, again, and pretty.  This week's spelling test will be on Friday, May 4th.

Writing----The students will be writing their own stories from their "Reading and Writing" Journal.

Hnadwriting----The students will be printing the "Ten Commandments".  The students will also be printing pages in their "Handwriting" workbook.

Science----Everyone will continue the study of "Motion--push and pulls".  Then, the study of "Magnets" will be started.
