What's Happening the Week of November 7th Through November 11th

Kindergarten

Phonics----The students will continue their study of letter "Ii" words.  The students will be reading the following phonics words:  pig, pin, lip, tin, tip, in, it, ill, till, him, hit, hip, lit, and pit.  The next letter of study will be the letter "Ss"---keyword--sun.  Some "Ss" phonics words will be:  gas, sap, sit, sip, sat, is, his, as, has, its, last, slat, gasp, slip, slim, sag, stop, spot, slot, spin, snip, and slit.  The students will be doing many "Ss" worksheets.  The students will be reading several word lists and a phonics booklet.

Reading----The students will be reading phonics word lists, color words, and a phonics booklet.

Handwriting----The boys and girls will be printing the letters "Ii" and "Ss", and their first name.

Math----The students will be learning about pictographs, bar graphs, and reviewing writing their numbers 1-10.  Dot-to-dot worksheets will be done.

Religion----The students will continue their study of Chapter 11, in which they learned that we learn about God from our families.  Then, in Chaptet 12, the students will learn that we also learn about God from our friends.


First Grade

Phonics----The students will be studying the digraph "ng" and the suffix "ing"; the suffix "ed" and the digraph "ee".

Reading----The students will contiue the workbook pages that go along with the story, "Try Your Best",pp.108-126.  The students will also be reading the booklet, "Just One More".  Through this booklet, the students are practicing the "Words to Remember" from their story.  Then, the students will read the story. "Fun Wth Fish".  The students will be doing many workbook pages with the "sh" sound.

English----The students will be learning about "verbs".  The students will learn that a verb is an action word.

Spelling----In Unit 15, the students will study the "st" sound.  The spelling words this week are:  nest, fast, stop, must, step, best, stick, your, their  and  other.   This week's spelling test will be on Friday, November 11th.

Handwriting----The students will be printing many pages in their handwriting workbook.  The students will be printing the letters "k", "L", "l", "M", "o", "P", and "v".

Writing----The boys and girls will be writing several spelling word sentences.  The students will also be writing their own story with the characters from the stories, "Try Your Best" and "Fun With Fish".

Social Studies----Everyone will continue to learn about the "First Thansgiving" story.  Everyone will be making a magnet Pilgrim boy and girl, and a magnet turkey.  "Time For Kids" magizine will be read and pages will be done that go along with "Time For Kids" magazine.
