What's Happening the Week of October 24th Through October 28th

Just a Reminder-----All the reading homework assignments may be written down on the Reading Counts form and counted towards the reading counts points.  All stories and word lists that are sent home with a nightly "Beary Award assignment may be counted towards the Reading Counts Points----just write the story's name or write word list on the Reading Counts Form.

Kindergarten

Phonics----The students will continue their study of words that contain the letter "Nn".  Then, the next letter of study will be the letter "Mm"---keyword--monkey.  The students will be learning that the letter "Mm" is a consonant letter.  Some "Mm" words that will be studied will be:  map, ham, mat, mom, and man. 

Reading----The students will be reading phonics word lists and color words.  The students will be making color word flash cards to be sent home and practiced.

Handwriting----The boys and girls will be printing their first name and the letters "Nn" and "Mm".

Math----The students will be learning about the terms left, between, and right; before, between and after, and doing dot-to-dot worksheets using the numbers 1-10.

Religion-----The students will be finishing up their study of Chapter 9----learning that God loves us.  Then, the students will start Chapter 10.  In Chapter 10, the students will learn that God gives us our five senses to discover His world.".

First Grade

Phonics----The students will be reading words that contain the letter "Kk", "Cc", "Mm", and "Ee".

Reading-----The students will be finishing up their worksheets and taking a story test over the story "Space Pup".  Then, the students will begin reading the story, "Where Do Frogs Come From?   The booklet, "Frank From Moss Pond" will also be read.

English----The students will be learning that they can use other words,when writing,that mean the same thing---instead of just using the same word over and over again.  Then, the students will be reviewing nouns, pronouns, naming and action parts of a sentence, and telling and question sentences.

Spelling----In Unit 13, the students will be learning about words that contain the sounds of "dr", "gr", and "tr".  The spelling words this week are:  drip, trap, drop, drum, trip, grin, branch, all, do, and from.  This week's spelling test will be on Friday, October 28th.

Handwriting----The students will be printing letters "f", "G", "i", and  "J".  These letters will be printed on their handwriting workbook pages.

Writing----The students will be writing spelling words sentences and writing a story using the characters from their reading story "Space Pup".

Social Stidies----Everyone will be learning the difference between "needs" and "wants".  The students will also be learning about Thomas Edison and about picture graphs.
