What's Happening This Week-----December 7th Through December 11th

Kindergarten--

Phonics----The students will continue their study of the sound that the letter "Ss" makes----keyword---sun.  Then, the students will learn the sound that the letter "Ff" makes----keyword----fish.
Reading----The students will be reading the phonics booklet-----"Hop on the Mop".  Phonics words will be read, such as----gas, sap, sit, stop, spot, slot, spin, snip, slit, last, slat, gasp, slip, slim, sag, sip and sit.  Then, these phonics words will be read----fan, fish, film, soft, flap, golf, lift, loft, sift, fist, flip, fast, flag, off, fill, fin and fog.  The following sight words will be read---I, to, the, a, as, has, its, is and his.  The students will continue to read color words.
Handwriting----The students will be printing the letters "Ss" and "Ff".  First name and phonics words will be written.
Math----The students will learn the terms----"Fewest and Most".  The students will learn about "Equalizing Sets" , "Tally Marks" and "Tally Charts".
Religion----The students will be learning about Saint Nicholas.  In Chapter 14, the students will learn about----"Christmas".
Science----The students will learn about "Homes For Living Things" and about how "Animals and Plants Live Together".
Social Studies----The students will learn about the "Earth" and "Where We Live".
Crafts----The crafts will center around the "Christmas" theme.

First Grade

Phonics----The students will be learning "I-e", "e-e", "Contractions" and "Xx".
Reading----The students will continue reading the story----"Did You See Chip?".  Then, the students will read the story----"Tomas Rivera' and the booklet----"One Night".
English----The students will learn about----"Verbs With ed", "Is and Are", and "Was and Were".
Spelling----In Unit 19, the students will be reviewing the spelling words from units 13-17.  This week's spelling words will be: drip, grin, club, sled, fast, step, egg, miss, chin and wish.  This week's spelling test will be on Friday, December 11th.
Handwriting----The students will be printing the letter "Xx".
